Frequently Asked Questions
Bare-Root trees are trees which have been grown in field which are then dug up when dormant and then have their roots washed to remove any remaining soil prior to shipment. Bare-Root trees are an economical and environmentally beneficial way to ship trees across the country. By removing the soil, these trees don't transmit soil borne diseases and pests between locations. The are also much lighter to ship making the whole process more efficient.
Permaculture is a holistic design approach that works with nature—rather than against it—to create sustainable, self-renewing systems. Drawing inspiration from natural ecosystems, it weaves together soil health, water management, perennial plants, wildlife habitat, and human needs into a balanced, efficient whole. In practice, permaculture focuses on thoughtful observation, minimal waste, and regenerative solutions that support long-term abundance for people and the land.
A forest garden is a cultivated ecosystem designed to mimic the structure and function of a natural woodland. Instead of rows of annual crops, it layers trees, shrubs, vines, herbs, groundcovers, and root crops to create a resilient, low-maintenance food-producing habitat. By stacking edible and useful plants in multiple tiers, a forest garden captures more sunlight, builds healthier soil, supports wildlife, and yields fruits, nuts, herbs, and perennial vegetables with far less ongoing input than a traditional garden.

We use UPS almost exclusively for our trees and shrubs and USPS for individual seed orders. There are some tree shipments small enough to ship through USPS but otherwise your trees will ship through UPS. We cannot guarantee we can ship to a P.O. Box but if your order is able to be shipped through USPS then it is possible. We do prefer physical addresses.
All of our trees are packed wrapped in moistened packing paper ad inside a compostable bag to maintain humidity for the roots. They are then carefully packed into their boxes so as to not shift around during shipping.
Due to the chance that packages are left in unheated shipping trailers overnight, we encourage you to add one heat pack per order if you expect your area to have lows 30 and below during the shipping window. We will check your forecast before shipping and only use it if it is necessary and will refund you otherwise.
Yes, absolutely! We guarantee all of our trees to leaf out in the spring, regardless if they are purchased in the fall, winter or spring. Please let us know at your first sign of concern so we can help save your trees if they are still savable.
Please contact us at the first sign of concern with your trees so we can help. We do ask you to perform a scratch test on the tree in question and to send us a picture of that test.
Either one, your choice! As long as we still have trees in stock and are still in our shipping season you can request replacements or a refund. We reserve the right to provide a refund if replacements are not available.
